A visitor walks past a paper-cutting of the late Chairman Mao Zedong displayed at "Shanghai Biennale 2004" at the Shanghai Art Museum September 28, 2004. After the first two editions were reserved exclusively for Chinese artists and traditional techniques (oil, ink, and watercolor painting), the Shanghai Biennale was opened to international participants. The Biennale aims to expand Shanghai's importance as the "gateway to the west" to the arts sector. Some 120 artists and groups from Asia, South America, Africa, Europe and North America are participating in the two-month long exhibition. Picture taken September 28, 2004.
