The monastary is the birthplace of the founder of the Gelupka sect of Buddhism, of the which the Tibet's spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, heads. Today marks the 50th anniversary since the Dalai's flight into exile after an abortive uprising against Chinese rule in 1959. REUTERS/David Gray (CHINA SOCIETY CONFLICT POLITICS RELIGION)
