EP-3E pilot Lieutenant Shane Osborn of Norfolk, Nebraska, wipes a tear from his eye after arriving for a homecoming celebration at Naval Air Station Whidbey Island in Oak Harbor, Washington, April 14, 2001. The 24 VQ-1 Squadron crew members, who survived the midair collision with a Chinese military jet near Hainan, China on April 1, were detained in China until being released April 11. The crew returned to their homebase at Whidbey after two days of debriefings in Hawaii.
