U.S. DEPUTY UNDER SECRETARY OF DEFENCE FOR POLICY SUPPORT PETER VERGA ARRIVES IN BEIJING FOR SPY PLANE TALKS.

Peter Verga (C), Deputy Under Secretary of Defence for Policy Support, is escorted by spokesman Joe Bookbinder (L) of the U.S. Embassy in Beijing upon the arrival of a U.S. delegation at the Beijing International Airport April 17, 2001. The Department of Defence team arrived in the Chinese capital on Tuesday for talks on the U.S. spy plane incident which promise to be testy at best as each side blames the other for the mid-air collision which set off an 11-day diplomatic stand-off.
