COLOMBIAN REBEL COMMANDER ANTONIO LOZADA GIVES A PRESS CONFERENCE AFTER
A PEACE MEETING IN LOS POZOS....
Colombian rebel commander Antonio Lozada gives a press conference after
a peace meeting in Los Pozos, January 11, 2002. Lozada said that the
meeting was highly positive. Colombian President Andres Pastrana on
January 10 gave international mediators 48 hours to meet FARC rebels in
a last-ditch effort to save three-year-old peace talks and avoid all
out war. If the efforts fail, the government would give the
Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) another 48 hours starting
Saturday night to abandon the towns in a huge demilitarized enclave
Pastrana gave them in late 1998. REUTERS/Eliana Aponte
