DOCTOR SHOWS AN X-RAY OF COLOMBIAN SIAMESE TWINS IN MEDELLIN.
A doctor shows an X-ray of Colombian siamese twins in the city of Medellin, September 14, 2000. An infant Colombian Siamese twin died early on Thursday, less than 24 hours after doctors separated her from her sister in a risky and complicated operation. Doctors at the state-run Leon XIII hospital said the baby, who was less than a week old, died of respiratory failure after a 16-1/2 hour operation that began on Tuesday afternoon to separate her from the sister with whom she shared a liver, part of her intestines and pancreas.
