A bonobo lies at Lola Ya Bonobo sanctuary just outside Congo's capital Kinshasa
A bonobo lies at the world's only sanctuary for the endangered great ape at Lola Ya Bonobo just outside Congo's capital Kinshasa, July 31, 2010. Female-dominated and unique to the Democratic Republic of Congo, the bonobo, or pigmy chimpanzee, numbered as many as 10,000 during the 1980s, but decades of war and poaching for bush meat has reduced their numbers to about 1,000 today.
