A squirrel is fed by biologist Carmen Hernandez at the Las Pumas Rescue Shelter in Canas
A squirrel is fed by biologist Carmen Hernandez at the Las Pumas Rescue Shelter in Canas, Guanacaste, 200 km (124 miles) from San Jose, March 19, 2008. The shelter was created 40 years ago, by Swiss Werner Hagnauer and his late wife Lilly Bodmer, when the deforestation levels in Guanacaste were high. Hagnauer received animals that the neighbours brought to save their lives, as well as those the Ministry of Environment confiscates. At the moment the shelter is home to more than 160 animals from 60 different species. REUTERS/Juan Carlos Ulate (COSTA RICA)
