Tallahassee, United States of America
DEATH ROW INMATE RELEASED AFTER 17 YEARS.
While his attorney Marty McClain (L) looks on, Juan Roberto Melendez
(R) smiles as he talks to reporters at the Florida Press Center January
4, 2002, less then 24 hours after finding out he was going to be
released after 17 years, 8 months, and one day on Florida's death row.
Melendez said it was the "happiest day of his life" and just wanted to
take a nap and go home to Puerto Rico to take care of his elderly
mother. REUTERS/Mark Wallheiser
