Retired Bishop Thomas J. O'Brien (L), of the Phoenix Diocese, and Barry
Mitchell (R), one of his lawyers, enter the Maricopa County Superior
Court building in Phoenix, Arizona, July 7, 2003. O'Brien plead not
guilty during his arraignment on a Class 4 felony charge of leaving the
scene of a serious injury or fatal accident on June 14, 2003 in which
he alledgedly hit Jim Reed, resulting in Reed's death. O'Brien's
pre-trial conference is set for August 11, 2003 at which a trial date
will be set. Reed was reported to have a blood alcohol content of .20,
