RETIRED ARIZONA BISHOP THOMAS J. O'BRIEN ENTERS COURT IN PHOENIX.
Retired Bishop Thomas J. O'Brien, of the Phoenix Diocese, enters the
Maricopa County Superior Court building in Phoenix, Arizona, July 7,
2003. O'Brien plead not guilty during his arraignment on a Class 4
felony charge of leaving the scene of a serious injury or fatal
accident on June 14, 2003 in which he alledgedly hit Jim Reed,
resulting in Reed's death. O'Brien's pre-trial conference is set for
August 11, 2003 at which a trial date will be set. Reed was reported to
have a blood alcohol content of .20, above the legal limit in Arizona,
and was jaywalking at the time of the accident. If convicted O'Brien
could face probation to four years in prison. O'Brien is the first
