CUBAS LEADING DISSIDENT ROCA WALKS OUT OF PRISON WITH HIS WIFE MAGALY.
Vladimiro Roca, one of Cuba's leading dissidents and son of one of
communist Cuba's founding fathers, walk out of the Ariza prison, in the
central province of Cienfuegos, May 5, 2002 with his wife Magaly de
Armas, after serving all but two months of a five-year sentence for
inciting sedition. Roca's case has drawn widespread international
condemnation since he was jailed with three other dissidents in 1997
for urging political reforms on the communist-ruled island. Roca's
freedom had to be approved by Cuban President Fidel Castro, local
analysts said, in an apparent gesture to former U.S. President Jimmy
Carter, scheduled to visit the Communist-ruled island beginning next
Sunday. REUTERS/Rafael Perez
