U.S. World War II veteran Jack W. Schlegel, 91 years-old from Mount Tremper, New York, who served with the 508 PIR, 82nd Airborne, attends a ceremony in Houesville June 4, 2014. Schlegel parachuted onto the Normandy coast in the early hours of June 6, 1944. Some 3,000 veterans are among those attending ceremonies across the northern French coastline where Allied forces landed in the largest seaborne invasion in history to help speed up the defeat of Nazi Germany in World War Two.
