Various municipal and private initiatives took place in different parts of Athens, Greece, during the World Animal Day October 4 and October 5, 2003. The events were aimed at raising public awareness and sensitivity on the good treatment of stray animals. The Greek Animal Welfare Society has already started a programme of medical care, vaccination and hospitalization of ill and wounded stray animals until they are adopted.
