Brasilia, Brazil -
BRAZILIAN CENTRAL BANK WORKERS AT BREAKFAST PRIOR TO SUSPENDING THEIR
STRIKE.
Brazilian Central Bank workers line up for breakfast outside the bank
headquarters in Brasilia, July 9, 2003. The workers voted to suspend
their strike, started to protest against proposed reforms to the social
security system, which was the first against the government of
President Lula da Silva since he took office last January. Workers had
vowed to paralyze the Central Bank and Finance Ministry, but a powerful
union opted out of the strike, and most employees went to offices as
normal past handfuls of protestors who urged them to save their pension
benefits. A union strike poster hangs at left. REUTERS/Jamil Bittar
