Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan will undergo surgery for an
enlarged prostate April 22, 2003, but has tested negative for cancer
and plans to be back at work later in the week, the Fed said on April
21. The central bank chairman, 77, will not be under general anesthesia
for the operation, and so will not be ceding authority to any Fed
officials during the procedure. Greenspan waits to testify before the
