SMOKE RISES FROM THE CRATER OF THE GUAGUA PICHINCHA VOLCANO.
Smoke rises from the crater of the Guagua Pichincha volcano located just 12 km (7.4miles) from the Ecuadorean capital of Quito, October 1. Following increased seismic activity, experts maintained the city and the outlying region on "orange" alert, meaning the active volcano is expected to erupt within the next days or weeks, putting in danger a large part of the city's 1.2 million inhabitants.
