Elephant hospital officers try to apply splint at the front left leg of Motola , a 38-year-old, four tonne elephant August 21 after she stepped on a landmine on the Thailand-Myanmar border August 15. The animal clinic looking after Motola plans to launch an internet appeal to help finance the rescue of th the elephant which would cost more than US$26,150, requiring the amputation of the left leg and replacing it with an artificial one.
