A man works in the process of drying coffee beans in the city of Chalchuapa
A man works in the process of drying coffee beans in the city of Chalchuapa, about 78 km (48 miles) northwest of San Salvador, October 5, 2010. The government of El Salvador has deployed about 2,000 army soldiers and 1,200 police officers in a security plan to protect the 2010/11 coffee harvest from theft, according to El Salvador's Ministry of Agriculture. El Salvador is currently experiencing a wave of crime and violence, with about 10 homicides a day, mainly due to the violent gangs operating in this impoverished Central American country.
