Inmates and members of street gangs are seen after a pledge event at the Sonsonate jail, outside San Salvador February 8, 2013. The event, sponsored by the country's Catholic Church, involves representatives of the country's two most powerful gangs El Salvador's Mara Salvatrucha (MS-13) and the 18th Street gang (Mara 18), who pledge not to commit violent acts in various municipalities of the country. It was held in conjunction with the church, civic organizations and government officials, marking the second phase of a truce between the two gangs which was originally signed in March 2012 in an effort to reduce violent crimes in the country. according to the pact's negotiators.
