EAST TIMOR PRESIDENT XANANA GUSMAO IS INTERVIEWED IN HONG KONG.
East Timor President Xanana Gusmao is interviewed by Reuters during a
breakfast in Hong Kong November 7, 2003. Potentially energy-rich East
Timor is planning to conduct independent surveys to assess if it has
onshore reserves of oil, gas and other minerals, the country's leader
Xanana Gusmao said on Friday. "Our government is trying to get an
independent survey team to give us an idea of what we have," Gusmao,
who led his country to independence last year following a bloody
25-year struggle against Indonesia, told Reuters in an interview.
