SCENE OF RESCUE OF TRAPPED MINERS.
Coal miners react at the scene of the rescue attempt late July, 27,
2002, at the Quecreek Mine in Somerset, Pennsylvania. Gov. Mark
Schweiker announced that nine coal miners were found alive Saturday
night, after rescuers spent an agonizing three days drilling through
240 feet of earth to save them from a cramped and flooded mine shaft.
