Paul Calcaterra (L) takes aim at a large alligator while Doug Werk (center) and Rene Lieurance hold the rope as they cull older alligators from a breeding pond in a 170-acre facility north of Okeechobee, Florida October 25, 2006. Calcaterra, who owns the facility, will be re-stocking the pond with younger, more fertile alligators after his annual egg production has dropped from 1500 eggs 8 years ago to 500 this summer forcing him to purchase hatchlings which have doubled in price in the past 2 years. The once-endangered alligator has made such a phenomenal comeback in Florida that state wildlife officials are considering making it fair game once again. Picture taken on October 25, 2006.
