Two birds of paradise (paradise minor), one of the most well-known and
famous species in Indonesia's remote Papua province, get friendly August 27,
2003 at an aviary built by Dr John Manangsang, who cares for birds shot and
injured by poachers. Manangsang wants to set up a bird sanctuary in a nature
reserve not far from his home to help the birds, among a number of protected
species being threatened by illegal smuggling. Papua is home to some of the
rarest tropical bird species in the world. Picture taken August 27, 2003. TO
