The Isralei Eros-1 observation satellite blasts off using a Russian Topol or SS-25 ballistic missile and mobile launcher in Svobodny, Siberia, Russia December 5, 2000. The satellite is designed to take high-resolution photographs of any spot on earth and cost some $100-million. The satellite has enough fuel to stay in orbit for six years, and it is widely believed the Israeli military is a customer.
