Ali cuts a melon at "The New Jungle" camp in Calais
Ali from Sudan cuts a melon at "The New Jungle" camp in Calais, France, August 9, 2015. Ali, 20, from Darfour, used to work milking cows. He has spent three months in "The New Jungle" and dreams of being safe in France. According to Ali, he lived in Libya for two years and arrived in Italy on a rubber dinghy together with 120 people. "I feel safe in 'the new jungle compared with Sudan", he says. For most of the 3,000 inhabitants of the "Jungle", a shanty town on the sand dunes of France's north coast, the climax of each day is the nightly bid to sneak into the undersea tunnel they hope will lead to new life in Britain.
