Mahadi Yaha cooks at "The New Jungle" camp in Calais
Mahadi Yaha, from Sudan, cooks at "The New Jungle" camp in Calais, France, August 9, 2015. Mahadi, 25, says that he is from Darfour and had to give up studying to work as a farmer to help his family, but ended up unemployed. When he arrived in Tripoli in March 2014, he was abducted for three months and forced to work unpaid to stay alive. When he eventually arrived in Italy on a rubber dinghy, the Italian police wanted to take his fingerprints, saying "no fingerprints, no food", according to Mahadi. For most of the 3,000 inhabitants of the "Jungle", a shanty town on the sand dunes of France's north coast, the climax of each day is the nightly bid to sneak into the undersea tunnel they hope will lead to new life in Britain.
