European Union fraud whistleblower Dutchman Paul Van Buitenen looks pensive during a news conference by Taxpayers' Association of Europe October 12 at the European Parliament in Brussels. Van Buitenen, who was awarded the 1999 prize by the Association for his struggle against EU fund-wasting and against the decrepit EU system released a book on alleged wrongdoing inside the Commission. Van Buitenen's allegations of fraud and corruption had brought down the European Union executive last March.
