CLASHES BETWEEN ENVIROMENTALIST GROUPS AND POLICE AT GENOA BIOTECH CONFERENCE.
Italian policemen clash with protestors who were demonstrating against genetically modified foods at the site of a biotechnology conference in Genoa May 25. Marchers, estimated by police at around 4,000, included supporters of environmentalist groups, such as Greenpeace and Italy's Environmental League, the WorldWide Fund for Nature (WWF), the Anti-Vivisection League, far-left and environmentalist parties, farmers and representatives of town councils that have banned GM foods.
