The French Franc will officially be withdrawn from circulation February 17, 2002 after 641 years of use in France. Following the switch to the Euro currency, January 1, 2002, the Franc continued to be accepted alongside the Euro. No longer legal tender for commerce after February 17, the Franc currency will only be accepted by banks who will convert them to the Euro equivalent.
