A Eurotunnel bus returns asylum seekers to the Sangatte refugee camp in
northern France, August 23, 2001 after they were caught trying to pass
through the Channel Tunnel into the UK. A UNHCR official today urged
refugees to apply for asylum in France rather than risk their lives
trying to illegally cross into Britain. The controversial camp, housed
in a former warehouse since 1999, is at the heart of a battle involving
Channel YTunnel operators Eurotunnel.
