Lionel Jospin during a ceremony to mark the end of the franc currency
in Paris February 17, 2002. The six-century old currency will disappear
from circulation after this weekend as the country adopts the euro. The
euro debuted as legal currency in 12 E.U countries on Jan 1 and France
provided for a six-week transition period with the
