FRENCH SURGEONS JEAN-MICHEL DUBERNARD AND AUSTRALIAN EARL OWEN AT NEWS CONFERENCE AFTER A BOTH HANDS AND FOREARMS TRANSPLANT IN LYON.

France's surgeon Jean-Michel Dubernard (R) and Australian Earl Owen (L) answer newsmen during a press conference at the Edouard Herriot hospital in Lyon January 14. An international team of surgeons conducted by Jean-Michel Dubernard transplanted January 13 both hands and forearms onto a young man in a World first. The 33-year-old French patient whose name was not given had lost his hands in 1996 when an amateur rocket he was preparing for a launch exploded as he handled it.
