Statue of Bavaria with a lion-quadriga is seen on top of Victory Gate in Munich
A statue of Bavaria with a lion-quadriga is seen on top of a the Victory Gate 'Siegestor' in Munich, a three-arched triumphal arch, July 13, 2012. The gate is located between the Ludwig Maximilian University and the Ohmstreet in Munich. The quadriga was created by Martin von Wagner. Lions were likely used in the quadriga, instead of the more usual horses, because the lion was a symbol of the House of Wittelsbach, the ruling family of the Bavarian monarchy.
