Peace signs commemorating the Varus battle near Kalkriese in A.D. 9 are seen in front of the Reichstag in Berlin July 1, 2009. In the battle that took place in the Teutoburg Forest in Northern Germany an alliance of Germanic tribes ambushed and destroyed three Roman legions, a victory that played a profound role in German nationalism of the 19th century. The exhibition of artistically interpreted Roman war standards was organised by the Museum Kalkriese, which labeled the columns "peace signs". REUTERS/Thomas Peter (GERMANY POLITICS)
