Wulf Bernotat, chief executive of the German utility giant E.ON attends the annual press conference in Duesseldorf March 6, 2008. Germany's Federal Cartel Office on Wednesday opened legal proceedings against 35 companies it suspects of charging inflated gas prices, a further regulatory swoop to break the power of utility groups. The Bonn-based authority said in a statement it had Germany's four biggest power groups in its sights. It is probing companies belonging to E.ON, RWE, EnBW and Vattenfall Europe.
