A worker checks a part in the factory building of Maschinen und Anlagenbau Grimma GmbH in Grimma April 16, 2007. MWL, a maker of pressure containers for the petrochemical industry, is one of a rising number of companies hit by a lack of engineers and other skilled workers which analysts say is costing the resurgent German economy billions of euros. The shortage means manufacturing firms which have led the revival risk falling foul of their own success, unable to satisfy the appetite for know-how and machinery which has helped Germany be the world's biggest exporter of goods since 2003.
