Thea Paetsch, a paediatric nurse at the Saint Joseph hospital, opens a slot called 'Babyklappe' (Babyslot) to demonstrate how mothers can anonymously leave their babies in the hospital January 25, 2002. For eight weeks foster parents take care of the baby and during this time the mother can change her mind and demand her child back. After this period, the city of Berlin will be responsible for the foundlings.
