Friedrich Maerz, top candidate as floor leader of the Christian Democrats CDU at the German lower house passes behind the party's secretary general Angela Merkel, which could be a candidate for the party leader during a party meeting in Berlin February 22. After Wolfgang Schaeuble resign as party chairman the party will elect in April a new party leader on their congress.
