GERMAN CHANCELLOR GERHARD SCHROEDER SCRATCHES HIS LIP AHEAD THE WEEKLY
CABINET MEETING IN BERLIN.
German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder scratches his lip ahead of a weekly
cabinet meeting in Berlin November 20, 2002. Schroeder has had little
to smile about lately due to public outrage at broken election
promises. Topping his woes is a popular song that mocks his decision to
raise taxes after he promised not to. It is known as "Der Steuersong"
(The Tax Song) and is a parody of the summer dance hit "The Ketchup
Song" by the Spanish trio "Las Ketchup". The satirical lyrics
ridiculing Schroeder hit the top of Germany's pop charts with more than
350,000 copies sold. REUTERS/Alexandra Winkler REUTERS
