A BLINDFOLDED SUSPECTED AL QAEDA MEMBER LEAVES A FRANKFURT COURT IN A
POLICE CAR.
A blindfolded suspected al Qaeda member sits in the back of a policecar
as he is escorted from a Frankfurt court by heavily armed German police
officers following the first day a of a trial against five Algerians
suspected of belonging to the al Qaeda network April 16, 2002. The five
Algerians face a trial on Tuesday in a case that could shed light on
the guerilla network believed behind the September 11 attacks. Four of
the men face charges of planning to bomb a Christmas market in
Strasbourg in 2000. The fifth man is not accused of involvement in the
bomb plot but is charged with membership of a terrorist group.
