Greek police officers stand by their motorcycles in Athens' Syntagma square
Greek police officers stand by their motorcycles in Athens' Syntagma square April 10, 2012. Greek police will now charge a fee for escorting explosives and works of art and for safe guarding big cultural events, a service it offered for free to private companies and individuals before the country's debt crisis hit its budget. Hiring a police officer for an hour will cost 30 euros, adding a police vehicle escort 40 euros per hour and a motorcycle escort 20 euros, according to a police rate card.
