Priest Mario Orantes (R) celebrates along with his mother Martha de Orantes February 17 after he was set free on insufficient evidence by a Guatemalan judge. Orantes, the only person who was being held in connection with the killing of Bishop Juan Gerardi, was under arrest in a private hospital. Gerardi was killed on April 26, 1998 two days after he presented a landmark report blaming Guatemala's powerful security forces for most of the human rights violations committed during the bloody civil war.
