The Wider Image: The faces in the fog of 'long COVID'
Long COVID sufferer Shalini Arias, a 23-year-old anthropologist, poses for a photograph taken through blue plastic, in Madrid, Spain, March 5, 2021. The photograph was taken through blue plastic to visualise the effects of long COVID. As some doctors shrugged off her symptoms, Arias resorted to leaning on her support network. "They don't judge me, and they have helped me learn to live with this the best possible way I can," she said. Arias got a friend to design a tattoo for her to remind herself of the importance of her network of family, friends and colleagues. "It signifies growth and love, the love and support I feel from all the people who are helping me get through these difficult times." REUTERS/Susana Vera SEARCH "SPAIN LONGCOVID" FOR THIS STORY.
