A worker prepares a photo for a permanent photo and documentary exhibition of pictures from the Second World War by the Institute for Contemporary History at Adolf Hitler's former holiday resort in Obersalzberg near Berchtesgaden, October 20. [Hitler rented his "chosen second-home" in October 1928, after the war. From 1953 to 1996 the Americans used parts of Obersalzberg as an "American Forces Recreation Area" with ski-lifts, tennis courts and a golf course. In the wake of the reduction of US troops in Europe after the end of the Cold War, the Americans handed over the Obersalzberg in 1996 for utilization by the free State of Bavaria. ]
