A former gang member undergoes a process for tattoo removal at a medical center in San Pedro Sula, September 3, 2003. The process uses an infrared device to burn the skin, removing the ink, but leaving noticeable scars. The Honduran government, amid a rash of gang-related violence, recently passed a strict anti-gang law, giving police the authority to arrest youths for simply having a tattoo.
