International central bankers from 17 economies began a day of talks in Hong Kong January 11 on the world economy and ways to push forward with restructuring banks. The closed-door talks were the first governor-level meeting at the new Asia-Pacific regional offices of the Swiss-based Bank for Internaional Settlements (BIS).
