PROTESTERS SET ABLAZE A PLACARD ON 3RD ANNIVERSARY OF HONG KONG HANDOVER.
Protesters set ablaze a placard in Chinese characters reading "Government" in front of an effigy of Hong Kong leader Tung Chee-hwa outside Hong Kong's government headquarters as more than 1,000 protesters from various groups stage a joint demonstration in Hong Kong July 1, the day marking the 3rd anniversary of the the territory's handover to Chinese rule. Demonstrators denouced Tung and calling on him to step down. The euphoria immediately after the handover has gone as Hong Kong, once a thriving city, is crawling its way out of its worst recession in decades following the Asian financial turmoil.
