Hong Kong Chief Executive Tung Chee-hwa and senior government officials
hold a new conference at a central government office in Hong Kong July
5, 2003. Tung Chee-hwa, struggling to defuse the biggest political
crisis of his career, said he would amend a planned anti-subversion law
after half a million people took to the streets to denounce it. "After
repeated and detailed discussions, we have decided to make amendments
to further allay people's fears," Tung told the news conference,
looking weary after days of crisis talks with his cabinet and senior
advisors. REUTERS/Kin Cheung
