AN ACTIVIST OF THE RIGHT-WING HINDU SHIV SENA PARTY SHOUTS RELIGIOUS SLOGANS IN NEW DELHI.
An activist of the right-wing Hindu Shiv Sena Party shouts religious slogans to celebrate the eighth anniversary of the destruction of the Babri Masjid mosque in New Delhi on December 6, 2000. The mosque was destroyed in 1992 by Hindu zealots who said the mosque was constructed on the birthplace of the Hindu god-king Ram. The destruction sparked India's worst communal violence for half a century, leaving some 3,000 people dead and souring relations between Muslims and Hindus.
